Saisiyat, descendants of Dabajian and Xiaobajian Mountains

                  God Saved the World

                  After the Great Flood

After the Great Flood in ancient time, Baki WaSaw, the supreme

god in the sky, sent Baki'Oeway and Ku Maya to save mankind.
Baki'Oeway, named after yellow rotang palm, was chosen as he

was someone tough and practical. The two became brother and
sister after descending to the earth. He who is also known by the

name Baki bo:ong transformed into Dabajian Mountain ('oepoeh
na bo:ong) and she Xiaobajian Mountain.

They came to the earth to find out that that all human beings
had been destroyed. They turned to another deity named White

Fish for help. White Fish made KuKu Maya pregnant of a son later
named Baki Buwa. As a boy alone could not reproduce, the two cut

off a piece of meat from Baki Buwa's arm, divided it into more than
a dozen pieces, and threw them into the sea. Each piece turned

into one ancestor of the Saisiyat, except for the last one, which
turned into the ancestor of the Atayal. Therefore, the Saisiyat and

Atayal peoples have been brothers to each other.
After the pieces of Baki Buwa’s meat turned into human

beings, the brother and sister named them after animals, plants,
and natural phenomena. In the Ching Dynasty, the Saisiyat names
were translated to Chinese surnames with similar sounds or

meanings, such as Dou, Chao, Chu, Feng, Kao, Pan, Chien, Ken,

Chang, Hsia, Hsieh, Jih, Ssu, Chiung, Hu, Chan, Shih, Hsieh, and
Mo. Among them, the Saisiyat name karkarang meaning crab
was first translated to Hsieh ( 蟹 ), which means crab in Chinese,
