Origin of the Kavalan Soul-

 calling Ritual

                                                                                                            林昶邑

ritual should not continue, and said to the child: “I am sorry that
I did not take good care of you, but we do not share the same path

now. You’d better go where you should have been, and never
come back to this world again.”

After the child left, Mutumazau was no longer attached to the
mortal world. She set fire to a handful of hay, and returned to the
heaven with the rising smoke. Her husband followed and joined

her hurriedly as soon as he saw it. Ever since then, when a tribe

member passes away, the Kavalan people have been performing,
in the same way as Mutumazau did, a soul-calling ritual to see the
                    dead off.
