Abstract
I. Characteristics of Indigenous People Over 15 Years Old
1. Administrative Region: In 2024, the average number of
indigenous people aged 15 or older currently residing in Taiwan
for the year was 486,532, of which the largest number of people,
232,528, or 47.79%, resided in non-indigenous ethnic areas; this
was followed by those living in mountain indigenous ethnic areas
at 140,353 people, or 28.85%; and plain indigenous ethnic areas
at 113,652 people, or 23.36%.
2. Tribe: In 2024, the largest number of indigenous people over 15
years of age were Amis, at 38.39%; this was followed by Paiwan,
at 19.41%; Atayal, at 15.34%; Bunun, at 11.48%; Truku, at 5.27%,
and the remaining tribes accounted for less than 5%.
3. Gender: In 2024, there were 231,346 indigenous males over 15
years of age, or 47.55%, and 255,187 females, or 52.45%. In the
entire population, the proportion of females over the age of 15 was
also higher (51.09%) than that of males (48.91%).
4. Age: The age distribution of indigenous people aged 15 or older
in 2024 was 17.69% for those aged 15-24, 38.58% for those aged
25-44, 31.02% for those aged 45-64, and 12.70% for those aged
65 and older. In comparison, 56.77% of the entire population was
